In highschool I learned about an old hockey arena that the town had to condemn due to instability in the structural integrity of the seating area. The reason for the breakdown in the materials as I was told, and obviously needs to be taken with a grain of salt, is that the harmonic resonance of the numerous fan stomping and clapping matched the resonance frequency of the building materials which were causing instability on a molecular level. In simple terms I was told that it is similar to the idea of a glass breaking when an opera singer hits the right note. Whether the hockey arena story is true or not, I often think about it when I read about the walls of Jericho.
